17th February, 2017

The 46th Annual Conference of the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association of South Australia will be held in Port Augusta on Friday, 31st March 2017, commencing at 9:00am. It will be hosted by the Marla/Oodnadatta Branch of ICPA.

State Councilors, Branch Delegates, invited guests and interested observers will gather together at Central Oval Complex, Port Augusta to address issues relating to rural and remote education. The theme of this year’s Conference is Education: Going the Extra Mile.

"Education: Going the Extra Mile" refers to the effort remote and isolated families put into accessing an equitable education; the distance families live from traditional schools, learning centres and resources; and striving to overcome obstacles that can limit opportunities for children to gain access to a similar education as their city counterparts.

The conference is an opportunity for the SA ICPA to show parliamentarians and guests what life is like in a remote and Isolated area and the issues faced by families trying to access education without the same access, resources and opportunities found in cities.

Workshops focusing on secondary school options for remote families, Centrelink and Special Education will be conducted.

Issues on the agenda include: Boarding Schools and School Hostels, Early Childhood Education, Rural Schools and Rural Travel, Communications, Distance Education, Specific Education, Tertiary Education and Curriculum.

Bestselling Australian Author Graeme Simsion (The Rosie Project) will be our guest speaker and we have made ticketed access available to non-members for his speech.
